After installing this and finding that my system didn't boot anymore, I went back to the last known good configuration and uninstalled it. I now have a corrupted registry which stops my cd writer and dvd drive working at all. Roxio's support site has the corrupted registry problem as a known issue, and suggest a fix. Sadly the fix doesn't work on my system.

Having purchased the CD Creator 5 Platinum and having crashed the system and reformatted the H/Disc because some of V4.0 was left in, (V4.0 Worked just fine)I experienced extreme difficulty getting to the technical help field since what is required to register/access ROXIO's system is a TSID (whatever that is)Oh no they couldn't just use the Key or the S/N on the packet that would make it too easy to do. Sales helped me find the number (Thanks) I also downloaded the patch to bring it to 5.01 After all this effort and frustration I eventually found out from the tech support group who I actually got to, that the latest patch did not include my Memorex TwelveMaxx 1032 CD R! I have ordered NERO which looking at their web site does support my CD.
Lesson is look at ROXIO's web site to see if your CD R is included BEFORE you buy anything. I never did get to see if the S/W worked, it looked good however.
For ROXIO:- If only you would change the Flags from 'No Recorder available' To 'Unsupported Recorder' Also Change the ridiculous access serial number/TSID system for use by dummies like me. I must confess to being a little puzzled by some of the many conflicting reviews for this product.
I installed it with no problem (win98) and have created around a dozen music cds with no problems. This is my first foray into cd burning software and for me it does everything promised on the packet. Although additional features would be nice (like being able to smooth recording levels between tracks). My only other gripe is for the print options in the cd cover creator.
Possibly I should have checked first, but the stationary I purchased (CD covers, labels etc) are completely unknow to this software, which means I cannot get anything to line up when printing. But hey, I bought it for the listening pleasures, not the printing aesthetics.
Windows 2000 makes life much easier for Microsoft customers than previous operating systems: it is much more stable and crashes are a rare event. So when software is advertised as being Win 2000 compatible, one expects it not only to work, after a fashion, but to work well. But this item screws up not only the blank CDs, turning them into coasters, but the operating system itself. Roxio produced a 'patch' for it - you can download it free, if you like, from their web site. In some ways it makes things worse. If you don't mind changing your operating system, say to Windows 98 or Me, then do try out this program.
It might work, that's all I can say. There again, it might not. It's great fun for those who enjoy formatting their hard drive, losing all their data, and reinstalling everything again and again. Countless hours of innocent fun.
(Keep the sledgehammer locked in the tool shed in case you are tempted to use it. Delete this program, don't smash your PC). You either like or hate the new interface, but either way you get used to it very quickly. I had a problems installing under Windows 98 with Internet Explorer 5.5sp1, good idea to use Drive image to backup your computer first, the problem seem to stem from having Adaptec 4 CD Creator with all the updates, but eventually got everything working correctly. Has to be the easiest, if not the best Cd Creation software, this version is much more stable. Have produced no coffee coasters yet!, but I'm sure I will eventually. Can't see any reason to buy another update after this, it does what you need it to.
To store your digital photos on CD seems an effective way to follow up. I spend a year to digitize some 1000 slides and stored them on CD using EasyCreator - everything worked fine. Until the CD was getting full. You get a warning that the current file does not fit onto the CD - ok - to delete some files on your CD-RW disk is not a problem, you do this and carry on copying to the CD. Then you test whether you can read back what you just have copied to the CD, but the CD capacity has shrunk from 650MB to 480MB and is unreadable! The FAT has been overwritten, the data is lost - no CD-repair software will recover your digital photos, because the packed storage format EasyCreator uses is not supported.
Judge yourself whether storage software like EasyCreator should be save not to render your stored data unreadable or not - in the meantime keep a copy of what you store in a safe place. Since I purchased this software when it was released in UK during Arpril, I have had no end of problems. I do not intend to waste any more time explaining these in detail. Suffice to say that I am disgusted at the amout of time I have spent trying to get this awful software to work.
Here are just some of the problems I (an IT professional) have encountered: 1). Won't work with latest Soundblaster soundcard (probably the most common one on the market) 2). Won't work with SP2 Win2K service pack 3). Intermittant freeze ups 4).
Requires numerous download patches 5). Patches don't install correctly 6).
Pathches don't work 7). Can't get hold of help desk 8). Wait for ages on an expensive GERMAN help site (I am in UK) 7). THE SOFTWARE DOESN'T WORK!!!!! Completely corrupted the registry in my system causing me hours and hours of restoring and recovering.
