Rated 2 out of 5 by Tyler from Poor clone I chose Lifan because of reviews saying they made some of the best 'clone' engines. My idle adjustment didn't work well, the idle was adjustable but not below the factory set 2100RPM.

This caused big problems for a go kart. I contacted support several times, was always told they would look into it and call me back (that day) but I never received a call back. It wasn't until I measured the idle speed myself and reported it to the support rep that I was told 'that's normal'. He suggested that I bend the throttle bracket if I needed a lower idle. To build a 'clone' engine and then modify it to remove the possibility of setting a normal idle speed makes no sense. To not report this unusual characteristic in the manual or spec sheet is wrong. I wasted a week tinkering with the engine and waiting for the support team to get back to me only to end up driving 30min to my nearest Home Depot to return it after finally being told this is normal behavior.

This is a quality engine, but only for mid to high RPM applications. Rated 5 out of 5 by loriwsm from Superb Chipper Engine I replaced a 10HP Briggs & Stratton with this 15HP Lifan. Wow what a difference! It has power to spare and thus far, runs flawlessly. The electric starter makes a big noise when it engages, but otherwise gets the engine going quickly. The recoil starter works fine, but I would not use it except in case of a dead battery because it is difficult for an old geezer like me to pull it. The bolt pattern for mounting the engine was an exact match for my 2006 DR chipper machine, and the clutch fit the shaft perfectly, so installation wasn't a big deal.

As for the Owner's Manual, it presents some of the schematics and technical specifications you would expect, but it is written in such a way that parts of it are laughable due to a lack of command of the English language. Had no idea how it was going to fit both foundation wise and belt wise off the pulley. Rolled the dice and ended up only having to drill 2 holes into the snowblower engine foundation and the dual belt pulley fit with no adjustments needed. Now for the review. Had it delivered to the local store for two reasons, 1.

If it showed up damaged I wouldn't need to accept it and also 2. It was free shipping. When I picked it up from the store all was in order and the HD employee was more than helpful and explained to me that I had 30 days to return if unhappy. Once installed the engine started right up and ran fine all I had to do was wait for snow. That came today and the first trial run was flawless. Though it was only 2' of snow this engine gobbled it up with ease, plenty of nads.

The only downside was that there were virtually no instructions for hooking up the 12V starter. Other reviews said the same but also said that tech support was good for this problem, however I cannot attest to that for I have not called them yet. Starter red is (+) and black is (-) so it was not difficult to figure out.

Black can connect to any ground bolt and (+) goes to the starter. It's that simple. The wires provided have lugs already attached that hook up to the engine and starter. You not only have to provide a 12 Volt battery source but also whatever you want to hook up to the battery. I used alligator clips, it was simple enough and once the engine has started you can just disconnect the battery and coil the wires. I will say though that even though I have only started this engine a few times i have started it manually and it has started on the first pull.

Once we get our first 'real' snowstorm I'll update and report how th engine operated under a heavy load. Feeding a 4' snowblower 6'+ of snow will definitely work this engine. Rated 5 out of 5 by mudbogaintubby from this product has great features and qualities My friend and i are from Kentucky, we have ATV's and Dirt bikes, and we know what good quality in an engine is. We were thinking, we had this old golf cart frame, a Yamaha G9, and we wanted to upgrade it. We do not like Harbor Freight engines, so we went in to Home Depot one day and bought a Lifan 15 hp 420cc electric start engine. We took this engine home, got the key ignition on and started it and it runs great.

So we put it in the golf cart, put on air intake and bypassed the governer, and put a 2 inch receiver and a utility bed on the golf cart and it ran great, we probably had 2,000 pounds on that trailer full of logs, maybe even 3,000, and im telling you now it actually moved probably 5MPH and we were satisfied. The engineers that built this engine did a great job.
